The important missions of Kritika are: constructive dialogue with the performing arts, professional judgement, starting points for self-reflection and development, guiding and educating the viewer, opening different perspectives on what is seen/experienced. Above all, the Kritika portal offers professionals a space where they can independently and spatially develop critical thinking about contemporary performance art. Different formats, monitoring methods, criteria, approaches, views, even at the same performances, will significantly contribute to opening the space for dialogue and to the development not only of the field of criticism, but of the entire theater field.
The Kritika portal has three subpages:
Kritika - the central part of the portal, on which reviews of individual performances by professional Slovenian theater creators, mainly institutional and prominent non-institutional producers, are published.
Opinions – the subpage is intended for longer opinion pieces, interviews, reviews of seasons, echoes from hosting Slovenian theater artists in the international arena and echoes from hosting foreign excess theater events in Slovenia, reports from foreign theater festivals, essay writings about Slovenian theater and theater production.
A small school of criticism – the subpage is intended for the publication of critical writings of young critics, which are created within the framework of critical writing workshops and seminars. The purpose of this subpage is to establish a space for public publication and thus also for comparison, gaining experience and developing a young writer.
Glavni in odgovorni urednik Kritike je dramaturg dr. Rok Andres, članice uredniškega odbora pa so še gledališka kritičarka, teoretičarka in direktorica SLOGI, pobudnica in nosilka izvedbe projekta Kritika Mojca Jan Zoran, dramaturginja in kritičarka Vilma Štritof ter kritičarka Maša Radi Buh.
Producer of the Kritika portal: Slovenian Theatre Institute I The portal is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia I Pobudnik kritike, spletni koncept, tehnična izvedba in administracija portala Kritika: Institute Novi Zato.
"The goal of the Kritika portal is not only to monitor and evaluate theater production, but also to provide a space for the development of writing criticism, for the learning and development of writers. That's why we invited a wide range of writers to participate, from older and already established to the youngest, promising ones. We will also approach editorial work and work with writers very seriously. I believe that in this way we will be able to create a creative space in which skills, knowledge, experience, ideas will be intertwined... a space that will offer opportunities for the professional development of the writer." (from intervjuja z direktorico Slovenskega gledališkega inštituta in članico uredniškega odbora portala Kritika mag. Mojco Jan Zoran)
"When I thought about the mission of Kritika, I wrote down some wishes: constructive dialogue with the performing arts, professional judgment, starting points for self-reflection and development, guiding and educating the viewer, opening up different perspectives on what is seen/experienced. As an editor, I want to provide the profession with a space where it can independently and spatially develop critical thought about contemporary performance art." (from interview with Kritika's editor-in-chief and dramaturg dr. To Andres)
"The portal presents a new opportunity and possibility for critical reflection to all generations of writers, writing about all theaters, especially public institutions, a broader coverage and perception of staging practices is in itself the creation of an important part of Slovenian theater history and, perhaps idealistically, means the revitalization of Slovenian critical words about the theater." (from interview with a member of the editorial board of the Kritika portal, playwright and critic Vilma Štritof)
"Although it would of course be excellent if the space for criticism grew again in traditional media as well, I believe that online platforms responded effectively and took action against its complete drying up, which allowed us critics to continue working." (from interview with a member of the editorial board of the Kritika portal, critic Maša Radi Buh)
Travel guide to the new Slovenian critical portal
"In a few decades, the conditions for critical activity have changed significantly due to the rapid digitization of the media, which was further accelerated by the experience of the covid 19 pandemic. That is why the new Slovenian portal, dedicated to art criticism, is an important acquisition. Especially taking into account the fact that the digital transformation of society is one of the priorities of the European Union and that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia succeeded in obtaining three million euros in funds for the joint national cultural portal e-Kultura in the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Beseda cover is of ancient Greek origin and originally denoted a judge. In a pseudo-Platonic dialogue Axiochos from the 1st century BC the expression is used kritikós for the teacher as an interpreter of texts. In the file On the Sublime (Perì hýpsous) around two centuries later, the word crisis appears for the first time in the sense of a judgment on literature. It comes to life again in the Renaissance, when Erasmus of Rotterdam talks about ars critics or the art of judgment. Molière also contributes a lot to the expansion of the concept with his play School for women. Nicolas Boileau v The arts of poetry (1674), however, already uses the terms critique and criticize as generally established.

Greetings Critics
"The lack of constructive analysis of newly created or emerging works of art, not only in the field of performing arts, and the disadvantage of real-time placement of the performed critical thought of a thinking individual in the public space, a thought that is not oriented in a mainly polite, or even worse, in a market-oriented propaganda response to the experienced , which is consolidated and implemented at the individual and social cognitive level, supports the achieved state at the stage of stagnation leading to deadness. It is an advocacy of staying with what has been achieved, which prevents progress and any transition to a higher qualitative level. And the consequences of such actions, when helping to open the eyes of another is impossible or unwanted, are visible. Overlooked, it became invisible, lost from sight and far from heart. Known authenticity of artistic positions, inhabited in an unexpected, new and original form and content, willfully ignored. Unlit. Without this light, everything unconsidered remains insignificant, like an actor without a response. Irrelevant.”
Boris Mihalj, president of the Association of Dramatic Artists of Slovenia (ZDUS)
"I'm always happy when something new happens with the SiGledal portal. I am very happy about Kritika, because Tamara and Gregor (op. Matevc) and I designed the framework back in 2014, and since then Mojca (op. Jan Zoran) and I have applied for it, argued it and at various committees and working bodies (unsuccessfully). advocated. So thanks to the decision-makers who now listened to her.
The SiGledal portal is slowly becoming what we designers dreamed of at the very beginning.
Let editors and critics, then, let their critical pens flow well; creators and viewers will certainly be happy to follow their records, just as they follow our performances. The generation of theater and its reflection are two aspects of the same story. May they intertwine on the SiGledal portal, mutually, fruitfully and for many years!"
Only M. Sagittarius, director of the Novi Zato institution.
