Prešeren's day in the theater museum

On Prešeren's Day, a Slovenian cultural holiday, you are cordially invited to the permanent exhibition In Pursuit of a Theatre. From the Jesuits to Cankar on the 2nd floor of SLOGI and to the exhibition I worked for 40 years From our collections: Servant Jernej – from Cankar to Skrbinšek and Delak, which we have prepared for you on the 1st floor of SLOGI.

Permanent exhibition In Pursuit of a Theatre. From the Jesuits to Cankar sheds light on the path that Slovenian theater traveled from the 17th to the 20th century. The great story begins with the theater of reformers and counter-reformers and concludes with the appearance of the Slovenian playwright Ivan Cankar of the European format at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. At the same time, it clearly shows that all the key breakthrough events and processes on this path are either parallel European processes or European roots or influences; but at the same time also a sign of the emancipation of Slovenian theater from excessive commitment to the latter - especially at the level of language and national identity.

The exhibition I worked for 40 years. From our collections: Servant Jernej – from Cankar to Skrbinšek and Delak focuses on the most important dramatizations of this story: the first was written a hundred years ago (1922) by the versatile theatre creator Milan Skrbinšek, the second ninety years ago (1932) by the avant-garde artist Ferdo Delak. Selected materials from the collections of the Slovenian Theatre Institute – Theatre Museum will be on display (typescripts and book editions of dramatizations, stage sketches, projections sketches, stickers, theatre lists, photographs of performances, etc.), which accompanied numerous productions of Skrbinšek's and Delak's adaptations.
