Permanent exhibition IN PURSUIT OF A THEATRE. From the Jesuits to Cankar vividly presents the beginnings and central trends of theater in Slovenia, its involvement in European cultural events and its role in the formation of Slovenian national consciousness. The great story starts from the theater of reformers and counter-reformers and concludes with the performance of a Slovenian playwright of the European format Ivan Cankar at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when modern Slovenian theater began with the christening performance of his play Jakob Ruda. At the same time, the exhibition clearly shows that all the key breakthrough events and processes along this path are either parallel European processes or European roots or influences; but at the same time also a sign of the emancipation of Slovenian theater from excessive commitment to the latter - especially at the level of language and national identity.
It's an exhibition open from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm (for groups by agreement). Closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (except February 8, Prešeren's Day, a Slovenian cultural holiday).
