On May 18, International Museum Day, Slovenian state museums present their treasures on the theme of museums, sustainable development and well-being.
In the introduction to the exhibition, he is on behalf of all museums Gašper Troha, PhD, director of the Slovenian Theater Institute, wrote:
“The term museum etymologically comes from the Greek word mouseĩon, which meant a place dedicated to the muses, a higher school for poetry, music and other arts. Of course, the ancient Greeks understood poiesis, the foundation of art, not only as creativity and creation from nothing, but also as the skill of making and creating.
One of the central tasks of museums is the preservation of tradition, the transmission of old knowledge and insights to new generations. And this can be the foundation of sustainable development today. Have we learned anything from the past or are we just blindly staring at ourselves and our progress? Are we happier and more successful today? In the face of environmental disasters, psychological pressures and diseases, it seems not. But perhaps new knowledge for the future could be drawn from museum material and old skills.
The 13 Slovenian state museums store more than 2,500,000 items of material, which is a treasure trove to which we must return again and again, discover it and use it in new contexts. Only in this way will we be able to use the old knowledge to our advantage so that we will be good today and tomorrow as well."
