Since its beginnings in ancient Greece, drama has been a universal space for dialogical reflection on fundamental human values and interpersonal relationships.
In the period 2019 – 2023, the Slovenian Theatre Institute, together with partners from Poland (Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute, Warsaw) and Slovakia (Theatre Institute, Bratislava), is coordinating an international project Classics in comics: An exemplary model of innovative cultural and artistic education in high schoolThe project is co-financed by the European Union's Creative Europe programme.
Project concept
Three European partners select three canonical European dramas – three European drama classics. Three visual artists, comic book authors, will bring the selected canonical dramas to life in three comics, in collaboration with students from three high schools. Each drama-comic book will be available in Slovenian, Polish and Slovak. With artists, students and teachers, we will develop a model model of innovative, cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary cultural and artistic education in high schools based on the comics with residencies at each partner. The theatrical heritage of staging the selected dramas in the partner countries will be presented to the international community with an e-exhibition.
