Book by Ana Kocjančič SPACE IN SPACE – Scenography in Slovenia from the 17th century to 1991 is a comprehensive professional monograph »which helps the reader travel through important stages in the history of Slovenian scenography, theatre, fine arts and culture in general,"as the reviewer Dr. Tomaž Toporišič wrote.

The monograph is divided into two booksIn the first book, the author discusses the period from the beginnings to World War II, while the second book deals with contemporary theatre after World War II until Slovenia's independence in 1991.

Reviewer Dr. Gašper Troha wrote about the book: »Ana Kocjančič traces the long journey of Slovenian theatre, or rather its scenography, from the 17th century to the present day. Her monograph is a fundamental work of Slovenian theatrology, as it synthetically outlines the development of scenographic solutions from improvised solutions and the two-dimensionality of Enlightenment theatre, through the plasticity of stage solutions and the slight splash of historical avant-gardes, to the emptying of the stage after World War II, its dematerialization and happening in the seventies. From there, the theatre space became independent in some autopoetics, and today it once again fluctuates between an empty stage and dazzling scenographies that fully exploit the possibilities of modern media (lights, video, film, etc.). What is most surprising and gratifying about all this is the fact that when reading it, we become aware of how we actually read the history of Slovenian theatre, albeit through the specific optics of the theatre space."
