We present to you the collections of SLOGI – Theatre Museum. In June 2020, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Glej, we present a photograph of Aleš Valič as Jožef in the performance Ella Herbert Achternbusch, translated, directed and set designed by Eduard Miler (premiere 24. 4. 1983).
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Glej, the oldest non-institutional theater in Slovenia
On 25 June 1970, the first performance of the theatre, which was officially founded a week later as the Glej Experimental Theatre, was premiered in the Križank Knights' Hall. Its story also revolves around working conditions; among the key ones, the problem of a permanent space should definitely be highlighted, which is why the initial period of the theatre can be described as a long, almost decade-and-a-half-long search for a creative shelter. The opening performance of the current space at Gregorčičeva ulica 3 (the former warehouse of the State Publishing House of Slovenia) was Ella Herbert Achternbusch, translated, directed and set designed by Eduard Miler (premiere 24. 4. 1983).
The photograph was taken in 1983 by Tone Stojko and belongs to his extensive opus of theatre photographs, which is kept in the Ikonoteka SLOGI – Theatre Museum. In 1983, Stojko also prepared an exhibition of theatre photographs; for which he received the Prešeren Fund Award, as did Aleš Valič for several acting creations, including the role of Jožef (in the foreground in the photo; in the background Alja Tkačev as Ela).
