Theatre professionals like to say that every premiere – and especially the first performance – of a Slovenian drama text is a holiday for the theatre. And that is why this year 2020 is a holiday for the Slovenian theatre – they were supposed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Slovenian Drama Week. Unfortunately, due to the novel coronavirus epidemic, the organisers were forced to cancel the festival, and numerous planned parallel events and performances were also cancelled.
For the 50th anniversary, the Prešeren Theatre Kranj, SLOGI – Theatre Museum and the Gorenjski Museum, in cooperation with the 3rd programme of Radio Slovenia, prepared a comprehensive exhibition about the festival. It was on display from May to the beginning of October at the Gorenjski Museum in Kranj. Unfortunately, for obvious reasons, it was viewed by far fewer visitors than we would have liked. Therefore, at least some of the theatre materials that we used in the “physical” exhibition are presented online, as part of the e-exhibition The event is here, you have an event in town! Slovenian drama week - 50 yearsIt was prepared by Tea Rogelj, M.A., and included highlights from the festival, Grum's award winners, recipients of the Young Playwright Award, productions that received the Grand Prize or Šelig Award for the best production of the festival, and the Audience Award, as well as a selection of festival posters.
