Iz naših zbirk – Samorog Gregorja Strniše in 90-letnica rojstva Gregorja Strniše

We present to you the collections of SLOGI – Theatre Museum. In November 2020, in commemoration of the recent 90th anniversary of Gregor Strniša's birth, we present a photograph from the performance Unicorn Gregor Strniša, directed by Meta Hočevar (SNG Drama Ljubljana, premiered on October 2, 1992).

On November 18, Gregor Strniša (1930–1987), one of the most important Slovenian playwrights and poets of the 20th century, would have celebrated his 90th birthday. Among his poetic dramas is A unicorn, which the critic France Vurnik assessed upon its publication (published by Obzorja, 1967) as "a valuable poetic and dramatic work of art, the significance of which can already be seen today both in comparison with contemporary Slovenian dramatic creativity and in comparison with all previous Slovenian drama."

Strniš's symbolic-allegorical play was first performed on stage in 1968, directed by Andrej Hieng and produced by the Ljubljana City Theatre. The photo by Tone Stojko shows a scene from the production, directed by Meta Hočevar and produced by the Ljubljana Drama Theatre in 1992. Bojan Emeršič, Saša Pavček and Andrej Nahtigal played the roles of the perjured innkeeper Pincus, Uršula's twin sister who sees a deeper reality, and Rabelj, the bearer of death, whom Uršula is not afraid of.
