Iz naših zbirk – ob 100-letnici rojstva Bojana Štiha (1923–1986)

We are presenting our collections.

On the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bojan Štih (1923–1986)

Bojan Štih, born on February 18, 1923, artistic director of several Slovenian theaters in the years 1961–1982, made his most fundamental contribution to the process of shaping the modern dramaturgical concept in the period 1961–1968 in the Ljubljana Drama SNG.

During this time, Drama gradually transforms the principle of work and the approach to creation, actualizes and modernizes the repertoire, renounces rigid academicism, activism, and didacticism. This subjected the Drama to a supplementary examination in modern aesthetics. Staging of topical dramatic plays unleashed rigid psychologism. The drama briefly summed up the ascetic pattern of the Slovenian dramatic and acting expression of the experimental group Oder 57. With a powerful series of performances, the director Mile Korun stands out, who also directed one of the highlights of this period in 1964, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf Edward Albee.

The validity of Štih's reflection on the function and role of artistic management remains permanent: "I think that a fool is the one who sees a position and a social function in an artistic director. These positions are neither profitable nor happy. These are essentially torturous positions."
