Conversation evening with Vili Ravnjak and guest presentation of the monograph Talia's Temple in Maribor

The framework of the event will be the presentation of the monograph Talia's temple in Maribor (Pivec Publishing House, 2023), which systematically and in one place brings together articles, essays, studies, comments, interviews and diary entries Vili Ravnjak, which were created between 2006 and 2021. This content-heterogeneous theatrical work is "only" the most recent of all that Ravnjak has created or edited over the years.

In four chapters, the book ranges from the history of the Maribor theater under the auspices of various managers and socio-political systems to reflections on the artistic management, meaning, tactics and role of the classical drama theater for expanding the boundaries and achieving closeness today. What follows is a recapitulation of the period of management of the Drama Studio theater school, in which a whole series of fundamental contemporary theater creators were born, dramaturgical essays on specific drama texts performed, up to the presentation of Ravnjak as a man of many talents and interests, a seeker and a visionary.

A conversation with the author, who will be connected by a theater expert Primož Jesenko, MA from the Slovenian Theater Institute, wants to delve beneath the surface of this valuable book edition, which portrays the theater as a reflection of social changes. The event will not be able to ignore the multiplicity of roles of Vili Ravnjak, a scholarship holder of the theater house during Štih's Maribor era, and an exemplary catalyst of the theater context in Maribor for the next forty years - as confirmed by the big Glazer award for lifetime achievement in the field of theater in 2022. It will not be possible to avoid the causes for the specific distance of Maribor from the perception of theatrical Ljubljana, which curiously extends the geographical mileage between these creative centers of Slovenia. Is the spiritual distance between the two cities any shorter in the increasingly technologically sophisticated time?

Free entry. Warmly welcome!
