The Slovenian National Hall (the National Hall) in flames

We are presenting our collections. In July 2020, we are presenting a postcard/coloured photography of The Slovenian National Hall (the National Hall) in flames.

Hundred years ago, on 13 July 1920, the Italian fascists, with the assistance of Italian army troupes – the fire brigade was not allowed to intervene – burned the Slovenian Narodni dom (the National Hall) in Trieste (Slovenian name: Trst) to the ground. The symbolic undertone of this vile attack and the remains of the Slovenian national domicile shocked the Slovenian minority in Trieste gravely.

The photograph with Narodni dom in flames was found in the inheritance of the theater actor, director, organizer and pedagogue Hinko Nučič (1883-1970).
