This year’s recipient of the artistic achievements’ award in the last three years is the theatre actress Jette Ostan Vejrup whose professional path brought her to Slovenia from Denmark via Paris and other international stages. The explanation for the Borštnik Ring Award 2021 asserted: “Without a doubt, her appearance expanded the borders of the Slovenian theatre sphere.”

Jette Ostan Vejrup experienced her first professional recognition in Slovenia already with her first appearance on a Slovenian stage: the whole artistic collective of the performance Zugauskunft based on the text by Peter Handke and produced by the Glej Experimental Theatre in 1989, received the Borštnik special achievements diploma. Numerous awards followed, in 1991 the Borštnik Award for the title role in the staging of Witold Gombrowicz’s Ivona, Princess of Burgundia at the Ljubljana City Theatre. The jury stated: “From the moment of her first appearance on stage to the final image of her dead, deformed face, Jette Ostan Vejrup’s Ivona presents an exemplary figure of a human being that is preset to be different and without a way out.”
