Henrik Neubauer, recipient of the Prešeren Award

In 1953, Henrik Neubauer simultaneously graduated from the Ljubljana Ballet School and completed his medical studies at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. Already during his studies, he worked as a ballet dancer with the Ljubljana Ballet Ensemble, and after finishing his studies, he trained as a choreographer abroad. In his extremely extensive choreographic oeuvre, baptism presentations of ballets by Slovenian composers have a prominent place. His work as an opera director, his pedagogical work and research are also fruitful; he published a number of important works in the field of dance and music-theatre. At the same time, he made a significant contribution to the European establishment of the Ljubljana Festival and received numerous awards for his extremely diverse activities.

Among his solo dance roles is the title role in the only independent choreography by Pie Mlakar Dancer in shackles (1956). This demands from the dancer not only great technical mastery, excellent fitness, but also high and mature dancing power."
