Fran Albrecht (1889-1963) – translator of dramatic texts

Pesnik in prevajalec Fran Albreht (1889-1963) je bil tudi gledališki kritik, dolgoletni urednik revije The Ljubljana Bell in soustanovitelj revije Modernity. He translated from German, French, English, Czech, South Slavic and other languages. He translated many, including very extensive prose works, and he also worked intensively with drama in the time span from ancient tragedies to modern texts. Among the authors he translated are, among others: Sophocles (Oedipus the King, Antigone, Elektra), Molière (George Dandin or The Cheating Spouse), F. Hebbel (Judith), F. Schiller (Blacksmithing and love, Don Karlos, Bandits), J. W. Goethe (Ifigenija na Tavridi, Torquatto Tasso), A. Strindberg (Miss Julia), H. Ibsen (John Gabriel Borkman, Gospa Inger na Oestrotu), GB Shaw (Pygmalion, Kandida, Kako zabogatiš), O. Wilde (Bunbury oziroma Važno je ostati resen), B. Brecht, K. Weill (Beggar's Opera), B. Nušić (Gospa ministrica, Beograd nekdaj in sedaj), M. Begović (A man of God) and M. Krleža (Gospoda Glembajevi, Leda).
