PRISONERS OF FREEDOM, conversation with Dušan Jovanović, Milan Jesih, Lado Kralje and Gašper Troha

Recently, the publishing house Aristej and the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television of the University of Ljubljana published a monograph Prisoners of freedom Gašper Troha, who researches the relationship between Slovenian drama and theater on the one hand and the authorities on the other in the period 1943-1990. Through the complex relationships and balances between the theater, the authorities and the audience, he explains the flourishing of dramatic literature in this time and its social influence. At the same time, he also makes a historical overview of Slovenian drama of this time, its genre typology and European or global influences. Gašper Troha deals with the sociology of literature, especially with issues of contemporary global and Slovenian drama and theater.

Upon the publication of the monograph, the Slovenian Theater Institute organizes a conversation between the author and the central actors of this story. Gašper Troha will talk with a theater creator/director, writer/playwright, essayist and pedagogue Dušan Jovanović, poets, playwrights and translators Milan Jesih and literary and theater critics, theater experts, playwrights, editors, translators and writers Ladom Kraljem. We will talk about how they experienced this cat-and-mouse game, what drove them to test the limits of what was permissible and why political theater was the most popular genre at the time.
