Nataša Matjašec Rošker, recipient of the Borštnik Ring 2023
Nataša Matjašec Rošker's work can be divided into two periods: from 1995 to 2007 she was intensively involved in the independent scene (while also appearing as a guest in virtually all Slovenian theatres, and she has also acted on film), and since 2007 she has been working as a member of the artistic ensemble of the Drama of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor.
In her award citation, dramaturge Maja Borin wrote of this year's winner of the Borštník Award: 'The essence of her play is irresistible, it eludes categorisation, because in her acting quest she never stops, but is constantly searching for new ways of acting and means of expression. She does not use the latter for the sake of difference per se, but by seeking unconventional solutions, she penetrates deeper into the performance, the actor's creation, the role, the attitudes, the situations... the modus operandi is shaped by to perfectionist nuances and details, reinvents forms, building them at the meeting point of diverse artistic fields. And although she has devoted most of her career to a wide variety of genres within drama, she is also close to experimental and laboratory forms, including puppet theatre and film."
