From our collections - Milan Butina, scenographer

We are presenting our collections.

From our collections: Milan Butina, scenographer

(The exhibition is from November 9, 2023 until February 8, 2024 for viewing in Halls on the first floor SLOGI)

We celebrated in November 2023 the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Milan Butina (November 21, 1923–June 24, 1999), the founder of art theory in Slovenia. However, Milan Butina did not work "only" as a painter and art theorist, he was also a theater person. As a painter and scenographer, he joined the City Theater of Ljubljana in 1950, where he was later, between 1962 and 1967, employed as a technical manager. As a scenographer (and often also a costume designer), he co-created more than ninety productions.

They are at the exhibition at the Slovenian Theater Institute (SLOGI). Butin's scenographic drafts from the iconotheque collection SLOGI from the period between 1951 and 1967 are on display. Online visitors can view some of them at the e-exhibition From our collections: Scenographic sketches by Milan Butina, available on the museums.si website.
