On the program of the 59th Borštnik's Meeting Festival
The original purpose of theatrical photography is to document theatrical art. But when does photography transcend this purpose and become independent, becoming a work of art itself? What does theatrical photography tell us about the performance and what about the photographer, about his subjective point of view? How does theatrical photography differ from, for example, reportage photography? What demands, what approach does it make of the photographer?
What happens when two arts intertwine, when one depicts the other? How to combine the here and now, the unique and unrepeatable happening of a performance, and the eternal capture of the moment in photography?
As part of FBS, two exhibitions of theatrical photographs will be on display – by Damjan Švarc at the Maribor Art Gallery and by Tone Stojek at Medetaža. Slovenian National Theatre MariborOpening of the exhibition by Tone Stojko, Theater Photography/Theatre Photography will accompany a conversation about theatrical photography – with the creators Damjan Švarec and To Tone Stojko a museum consultant at the Maribor Art Gallery will talk Breda Kolar Sluga.
