The monograph, which presents Jovanović's oeuvre, primarily his directing and dramatic work, includes contributions by Dr. Diana Koloini, Dr. Aleksandra Jovićević, Alja Predan, Darja Dominkuš, Dr. Tomaž Toporišič, mag. Sebastijan Horvat, Dr. Aldo Milohnić, Dr. Gašper Troha, Dr. Milan Mađarev, Hrvoje Ivanković, Dr. Blaž Lukan, Janez Pipan, Draga Potočnjak, Saša Pavček, Martina Mrhar, Drago Ivanuša and Dragan Živadinov. The authors of the essays present and theoretically elaborate various chapters of his work, and the testimonies of his collaborators and companions are also included.

The volume begins with a thematic block entitled “Contributions to the Theory of New Media Art,” in which the authors discuss some key themes in the theory of new media art. They understand new media art more broadly, through its social contexts and implications, as well as through its relationships with other social, political, philosophical, cultural, and artistic issues and phenomena, such as the challenges of the Anthropocene, play, social media, activism, and artificial intelligence.

Jovanović, režiser, dramatik, gledališki reformator in vsestranski intelektualec, ki ga je med »kulturne teroriste« umestil Josip Vidmar, je pred četrt stoletja slovensko in mednarodno gledališko javnost navdušil z eno svojih najodmevnejših režij. Beckettova klasika Čakajoč Godota je v markantni uprizoritvi ljubljanske Drame gostovala v osmih državah in osvojila domače in tuje nagrade.

Between January 14 and March 7, 2025, you will be able to see a retrospective exhibition about the life and work of Dušan Jovanović in the First Lobby of Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana. The exhibition is being prepared by the Slovenian Theatre Institute in cooperation with Cankarjev dom.

16. novembra 2024 mineva 100 let od rojstva Duše Počkaj, znamenite slovenske igralke moderne dobe, ki je bila igralsko izrazita v upodabljanju likov, razpetih med tragičnim in komičnim, z groteskno oziroma absurdno noto – tudi kot odzivom na dezorientiranost sočasne družbene stvarnosti.

The present Yearbook is the thirty-first in a series and is also the 36th continuation of the centennial Repertoar of Slovenian theatres (1867–1967). It is based on the online database of Slovenian theatre production (on the sigledal.org portal), but it also significantly upgrades the data collected there – with introductions, information on festivals and awards, information on reruns and tours, and a summary and comparison of data between individual theatres.

A lecture before the premiere of the new Ljubljana production will present the difference in approaches of individual choreographers and how the productions were received by the audience, while a conversation with ballerinas Regina Križaj, Urša Vidmar and Tjaša Kmetec and choreographer Denis Matvienko will provide an insight into the creation of a ballet role and the different encounters with the ballet model. The event will be organised by Sonja Kerin Krek and Gašper Troha in collaboration with SNT Opera and Ballet Ljubljana and the Slovenian Theatre Institute.

Theater pedagogy in museums and at performance work

As part of the Erasmus+ project Engaged Audience 2.0, theater pedagogue and director Claudia Bühlmann will visit us from October 17 to 22, 2024. On Monday, October 21, 2024, she will hold the training Creating Theater in the Museum at the Slovenian Ethnographic Museum, and on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, she will participate in the conference Theater Pedagogy: Children on Stage and hold a workshop for professional theater creators.

Slovenian Theatre Annual 2022/2023

The Slovenian Theater Yearbook 2022/2023 has been published, the thirty-first in a row, which has been regularly published under this name since 1994, and is also the 36th continuation of the centenary Repertoarja of Slovenian theaters (1867–1967), which was first published on the centenary of the founding of the Drama Society (1967 ). The yearbook is based on an online database of Slovenian theater productions (on the portal sigledal.org), but it also significantly improves the data collected there - with editorials, data on festivals and awards, data on reruns and guest appearances, and a summary and comparison of data between individual theaters.

Connecting Avant-Gardes and Theatre: How to Revolutionise the Relationship between the Periphery and the Centre / Amfiteater Journal International Academic Symposium

The UL AGRFT research group, together with the scientific journal Amfiteater, the Slovenian Theater Institute and the Slovenian Society of Aesthetics, within the UL AGRFT research program Theater and inter-art research (P6-0376), has prepared an international scientific symposium in which more than 25 foreign and domestic experts will participate and artists. The aim of the symposium will be to map the various geographical and historical attempts to revolutionize the relationship between the periphery and the center in Europe and beyond.
