Glavnina vsebine\u00a0je zaradi splo\u0161ne kulturne rev\u0161\u010dine v vojnem \u010dasu posve\u010dena delovanju ljubljanskega Narodnega gledali\u0161\u010da,\u00a0edinega poklicnega gledali\u0161\u010da, ki je kljub okupaciji delovalo ves \u010das vojne. Avtor se najprej posveti\u00a0so\u010dasnemu\u00a0gledali\u0161\u010du po svetu, kakor ga je bilo v tistem \u010dasu mogo\u010de poznati (predvsem iz \u010dasopisov). Sledi prikaz raznovrstnih drugih kulturnih dejstev in dogodkov v Ljubljani (razstave, koncerti, knjige, jubileji, smrti). Knjiga je nekak\u0161na\u00a0sociolo\u0161ka\u00a0analiza\u00a0vojnega \u010dasa skozi kulturno dogajanje, o katerem\u00a0smo\u00a0Slovenci doslej vedeli\u00a0malo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">V nadaljevanju Mirko Mahni\u010d opisuje vsa gledali\u0161\u010da, ki so (bolj ali manj\u00a0kontinuirano) delovala v obravnavanem \u010dasu &#8211; ob ljubljanskem\u00a0Narodnem\u00a0gledali\u0161\u010du so to\u00a0gledali\u0161\u010de Ivana Mraka, amaterska gledali\u0161\u010da v Ljubljani in na de\u017eeli (ob tem\u00a0se avtor loti tudi prikaza delovanja nem\u0161ke gledali\u0161ke kulture na Koro\u0161kem, \u0160tajerskem in Gorenjskem \u2013 to je prav tako popolna novost pri obravnavanju\u00a0let\u00a0med\u00a01941 in\u00a01945). Hkrati se avtor skrbno posveti obravnavi dveh \u00bbvojnih\u00ab gledali\u0161\u010d, partizanskega (to je bilo, resnici na ljubo, doslej \u017ee obravnavano v zadovoljivi meri) in domobranskega gledali\u0161\u010da, ki\u00a0doslej \u0161e ni bilo dele\u017eno ustrezne strokovne obravnave in ovrednotenja.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Osrednji del\u00a0Mahni\u010deve knjige prikazuje dramatiko, igrano na odrih amaterskih\u00a0gledali\u0161\u010d in\u00a0Narodnega gledali\u0161\u010da\u00a0v Ljubljani, vklju\u010dno s podrobno obdelavo \u0161tiriletnega\u00a0repertoarja. Pri tem se avtor \u0161e zlasti posveti obravnavi posameznih re\u017eiserjev in njihovih poetik. Opisano je tudi takratno pojmovanje igralstva, \u010demur sledijo ocene kritikov za razli\u010dne igralce. Mahni\u010d se s posebno\u00a0zavzetostjo posveti tudi obravnavi jezika in odrskega govora v Drami, navsezadnje pomeni obravnavani \u010das obdobje, ko je bila sloven\u0161\u010dina obsojena na molk oziroma izbris. Posebna poglavja so namenjena scenografiji, kostumografiji, scenski glasbi in odrski tehniki v Drami.\u00a0Mahni\u010d ne pozabi niti na lutkovne predstave, ki so bile \u2013 kot\u00a0vselej \u2013 nekak\u0161en\u00a0obli\u017e na\u00a0rane\u00a0vojnega\u00a0\u010dasa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Z Mahni\u010devo knjigo dobivamo Slovenci pomembno\u00a0pri\u010devanje o \u010dasu, v katerem je bil slovenski narod obsojen na smrt, hkrati pa tudi tragi\u010dno sprt\u00a0sam s seboj.
