The UL AGRFT research group is together with the scientific journal Amfiteater<\/em>, the Slovenian Theater Institute and the Slovenian Society of Aesthetics, within the framework of the UL AGRFT research program Theatrical and Interartistic Research (P6-0376), prepared an international scientific symposium in which more than 25 foreign and domestic experts and artists will participate. The aim of the symposium will be to map the various geographical and historical attempts to revolutionize the relationship between the periphery and the center in Europe and beyond. First during the historical avant-garde of the 1920s, then the neo-avant-garde of the 1960s and 1970s, the post-avant-garde at the turn of the millennium, and finally the contemporary radical stage practices after the turn of the millennium. We will check whether, in different national, political and aesthetic contexts, neo-avant-garde, post-avant-garde and contemporary engaged art have revived some basic ideas of constructivist, futurist, expressionist, surrealist, suprematist and other utopian visions.<\/p>\n Some of the topics that we will be addressing:<\/p>\n \u2022 How do we conceptualise the European theatrical avant-garde from today\u2019s perspective?<\/p>\n \u2022 In what ways have avant-gardes resisted the asymmetry of international artistic forces and revolutionised the relationship between periphery and centre, both historically and in contemporary contexts?<\/p>\n \u2022 What is the current state of research on Eastern European and Central European avant-gardes?<\/p>\n \u2022 Has the map of European theatrical avant-gardes shifted significantly in recent decades? How and to what extent?<\/p>\n \u2022 What about the autonomy of art in the relationship between the avant-garde and society?<\/p>\n \u2022 How are the aesthetic avant-gardes connected to social movements as well as the past, present and future?<\/p>\n We invite theatre researchers, practitioners, students, and interested individuals to join us in sharing their perspectives at the international academic symposium that will take place in Ljubljana. The working languages of the symposium will be Slovenian and English.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
