Josip Rijavec (1890-1959) – Slovenian tenor of international fame, presentation

In the spring of 2001, the Slovenian Theatre Museum took over the legacy of opera and concert singer Josip Rijavec, which was donated to the museum by the singer's daughter Tatjana and her husband Milorad Ćurčić from Belgrade.

Josip Rijavec (Jose Riavez), was an opera singer known mainly abroad, who was compared to Caruso and Gigli. The publication, edited by mag. Francka Slivnik and Ivo Svetina, contains contributions from prominent musicologists and experts in opera history of the past century.

The research also resulted in nine video units of documented testimony. The following spoke about Josip Rijavec: Tomislav Neralić, Biserka Cvejić, Branko Polić, Jovan Šajnović, Vilma Bukovec, Samo Hubad, Božidar Tumpej, Tatjana Rijavec Čurčić and Mario Rijavec. Directed by Janez Meglič and produced by Studio MEG, a one-hour video portrait of our opera artist was created.
