In the footsteps of the fleeting acting art
At the end of September 2023, the Slovenian Theater Institute opens a new permanent exhibition at Turjak Castle.
A fundamental characteristic of acting (and theatre art itself) is ephemerality, which is why theatre play is usually described as an elusive artistic expression that lives in the moment of performance. It is impossible to preserve it in the entirety of its realization.
The exhibition Milestones of theater play, who also looks back at the history of Slovenian theatrical creation, does not imagine that it will firmly grasp the incommensurable, nor that it will be milestones covered all the various past acting performances. It wants to offer the experience of feeling a theatrical play. In the hall as an exhibition space, which emphasizes the inseparable connection between play and viewing, it will be an invitation to discover individual historical chapters and also stylistic differences in the incarnations of the same dramatic character. Methodologically, it is based on selected photographic, sound and audio-visual recordings, which give the fundamental features of individual acting expressions. The contents, which will be placed as a supplement in the backstage area of the hall, pursue actor's memories and other types of preservation of the theater game.
