Slovene Drama in Translation, new web portal

The Slovene Drama in Translation portal has been launched on the SiGledal performance portal, which we have designed following the example of some other European countries (e.g. Germany, Finland) as a reference point for professional audiences with contemporary Slovene playwriting.

Slovene plays have been successfully staged on all continents and were translated in a number of languages. Research of Gašper Troha from 2015 has detected 325 translations and 234 performances between 1980 and 2015.

Web portal Slovene Drama in Translation is an initiative of Slovenian Theatre Institute, Prešeren Theatre Kranj, SiGledal and the Association of Dramatic Artists of Slovenia. It wishes to promote Slovene playwriting in international arena. It primarily aims at theatre professionals and scholars as it offers a number of translations of Slovene contemporary plays in English and other languages.

On the Slovene Drama in Translation website we are starting with 40 texts and a commitment to provide translations of the Slavko Grum award, the award for the best Slovene play of the year, nominated plays into English every year. This will help us to add to our database with the best of contemporary Slovenian playwriting.
