A new permanent exhibition of the Slovenian Theatre Institute

From the end of September 2023, the exhibition The Landmarks of Theatre Acting is on display at the Turjak Castle. The making of the exhibition arose from the intent to come closer to the elusive artistic expression existing only in the moment of the performance. Since it is not possible to capture and preserve the wholeness of its actualisation, the exhibition’s approach is only one of those possible. The exceptionally broad field of theatre acting in Slovenia is thus addressed from different points of view, among them the experimental one, introducing selected examples of a different approach to acting and theatre creativity.

Lado Kralj, the co-founder of Pekarna Theatre, declared in a television interview in 1972 that Pekarna was an attempt “to redefine the relationship between the spectator and the actor, the actor and the play, the role, the actor and the world”, and that Dane Zajc’s drama Pathwalker evoked nonnaturalistic emotions in the actors. They tried to internalise the mental states in the scenes, but it was not reliving in the manner of Stanislavski’s or Brecht’s manipulation of the spectator.
